Center of Mexico

The central part of Mexico is formed by different states like Hidalgo, San Luis Potosí, Tlaxcala, Michoacan, Jalisco, Puebla, etc.
In Mexico, each state has a representative dance and the dances define the culture of the states.



Dance in Hidalgo
The representative dance in Hidalgo is called “Danza de los Arcos”. This dance is made of complex steps. It´s necessary to have a partner to dance with.
This dance is named like this because while people is dancing, they have to carry wooden arches decorated with flowers of different colors.
The costumes have to be very striking for the women, and the men just wear white clothes.




 Dance in San Luis Potosí
The representative dance in San Luis Potosí is called “Danza de los Apaches”.
People use to dance it by the firsts days of march because it´s the celebration of “San Jose”.
However, people dance it outside the churches and it represents a gift for the saints. They use simple costumes with shiny clothes, it is danced with wooden sandals and they use a red rattle.
 
Dance in Michoacan
This state has a very famous dance that is called “Danza de los viejitos”. It´s very famous because it´s danced by men with old men masks. And they have to act like they were old men.
 It´s a funny dance with colorful costumes. The men wear white clothes with the old men masks and hats whit color laces.
Dance in Jalisco
This dance is maybe the most popular dance of Mexico, it´s called “Jarabe Tapatio”. This dance is very cheerful because of the music and the steps.
It´s necessary to dance with a partner. The costumes are very colorful, the women wear costumes of different colors and the skirt have to be very large because of the movements. And the men have to wear a mariachi costume.




Dance in Tlaxcala
The representative dance in Tlaxcala is named "Danza de los chuchillos". This dance appeared in the colonial age. When the slaves got tired of being abused by their foremen, they developed a dance to hide their identity and kill them.
It´s a dance composed by movements that include the knives. The men wear a hat with colorful flowers and laces and masks to hide their faces. Usually their clothes are white and they wear colorful skirts, keeping their knives in them shoes.




 Dance in Puebla
"Que Chula es Puebla"  is a famous dance in this state. Puebla is considered a world heritage because of the architecture. So the people that lived in Puebla, created this dance to show the beauty of this city. It´s necessary to have a partner to dance with.
The women wears a costume of "China Poblana" that is a large dress with shiny  flowers. The men are dressed like "Morelos".
